Chevrolet Volt wins Detroit Auto Show 2011 North American Car of the Year Award

GM's plug-in hybrid, the Chevrolet Volt, has won another award for its trophy case. The already award-winning auto has been awarded the Detroit Auto Show 2011 North American Car of the Year Award.

Other finalists in the Detroit Auto Show 2011 Car of the Year Award category included the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Sonata. In the Truck of the Year category, the Ford Explorer took home the trophy. Others in that category were the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Durango.

This new trophy for the Chevrolet Volt adds to the numerous awards the car has already won. In addition to the Detroit Auto Show 2011 Car of the Year Award, the Volt has won the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year Award, the 2011 Green Car of the Year Award by Green Car Journal, and was named the 2011 Automobile of the Year by Automobile Magazine.

It was also listed among the 2011 Car and Driver Ten Best Cars, the first time ever that Car and Driver magazine has included a hybrid among its 10 best list.
