Dell cuts Adamo's price again; cuts specs this time, too

Dell's Adamo MacBook Air wanna-be has just seen another price slash, reportedly in the last day or so. However, unlike its recent post-Christmas price cut, in which not only was the price cut, but the specs were raised, in this case, both price and specs were cut.

In December, the price was cut to $899 from $999. The $999 version had a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 2GB of memory. The $899 model carried a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of memory. That configuration was formerly priced at $1,099.

However, the new configuration (and there doesn't seem to be a way to modify the system internals) has returned to the 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and 2GB of memory, though at $100 less, all the way down to $799.

The comparable Air is the 13-inch model, which starts at $1,299. The Adamo has a slightly larger 13.4-inch screen and is slightly heavier, at just under 4 pounds, while the Air weighs just under 3 pounds.

These price cuts could mean Dell is clearing inventory because the system is going to see a refresh, with the Sandy Bridge platform and its much better performance and IGP. We hope it doesn't mean Dell is giving up on the model: at these prices, the stylish Adamo is pretty attractive. Still, we'd prefer a return to the $899 price and the better specs (and a return of the now-missing option for a 3G internal modem, too).
